Biography:
Beverly Sahin
Ms.
Sahin was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. Graduating
first from Grand View (then Junior) College and subsequently
earning her BA from the University of Northern Iowa with a
mathematics major and German minor, she taught four levels
of high school German in Postville, Iowa. During her
teaching career she did some summer graduate work in German
at Middlebury College in Vermont. She then gave up her
teaching position to enroll in a one-year study program in
Germany for the purpose of honing her German language skills
further. Her life took a new direction there as she married
in Germany and moved with her husband to Turkey, where their
two sons were born. The family moved to the United States,
the marriage dissolved, and Ms. Sahin supported her two sons
alone in Minneapolis.
A single mother with
responsibilities, she never returned to her demanding
teaching career. Rather, she supported her boys with stable
jobs first in oil and gas accounting and later in life
insurance mathematics. But she never forgot her former
German students and loves them to this day.
Throughout her
interesting and challenging life she constantly sought to
unravel personal problems brought on by having grown up in a
very bewildering family. Against the background of her
interesting life, it is this successful struggle that she
shares with her readers, hoping it will be of help to people
facing similar issues.
Now retired and her
children successfully raised, she resides in Minneapolis.
