Bowker
Biography:
Christel Decker Bresko
There
was never ever a thought of writing a book. I grew up during
WW2 and my schooling was done by very young substitute teachers
while the men serve in the German Army.
I
started grade school in 1943. The war was in full swing. We
all lived with constant interruptions . Low flying airplanes
shot at anything that moved. We all were taught at the first
sign of the full alarm to look for cover in a basement , bunker
or dug out holes.
My
father 's teacher recommended my dad to peruse higher learning
but there were not enough funds . He was one of the 12 boys
in his family.
He
became an apprentice in a printing firm at a very young age
and later became an editor at a large German Newspaper.
Mother
raised us 3 children alone .I am the oldest of three. My dad
left for the war in 1940 was captured by the Russians in 1945
and returned from the Russian prison camp in 1951.
My
desire was to learn about distant lands and their people and
languages . I taught myself the English language in England
and entered the nursing profession and earned my degree in
nursing which later got me to the United States of America.
Entering
Northwest College in Kirkland WA. gave me an opportunity do
study the English 101 102 103. An English professor in 103
told me to write a book, But at that time I had nothing to
write about.
After
my Arctic endeavor I thought I had a story and I wrote everything
long hand about Alaska.
I became a student in a writers class and was told to start
from the beginning. So "Mother if in heaven there are
no apples,...was born and "Living in a land where no
Apples grow" was put on the back burner to be published
at a later date.. It has been done.!!!
