Biography:
Deborah K. Frontiera
Deborah
K. Frontiera, a native of Michigans Upper Peninsula,
has lived in Houston, Texas, since 1985 when she began teaching
in Houston Independent School District. She has been published
in non-fiction, poetry, fiction and childrens books.
Two prize-winning essays date back to high school. Her first
poetry appeared in an anthology produced by a creative poetry
writing class at Saginaw Valley State College. Book-length
non-fiction appeared in 1985 with the release of Its
OK To Be Afraid of the Water from Front Row Experience.
Teaching
and family obligations took away from writing time for several
years as she and her husband raised four daughters, but the
idea for her fantasy trilogy, The Chronicles of Henry
Roach-Dairier, would not go away. Six years in the writing,
the first edition was released by the Writers Showcase
imprint of iUniverse in 2000. Now, it is available in a new
edition from Jade Enterprises separated into its three separate
novels: To Build a Tunnel, New South Dairy Colony 50,
and The Re-creation of Roacheria. Deborahs
poetry and short non-fiction have appeared in three juried
anthologies.
Her
years teaching kindergarten spurred the development of her
picture book series, Eric and the Enchanted Leaf,
with The First Adventure released in September 2004
by Jade Enterprises. The series presents concepts of biology
and ecology through fantasy, the way young children learn
best. Her current project is a piece of historical fiction
for middle grade readers set in Michigans Keweenaw
during the copper boom days.
