Biography:
Don Corace
Don Corace applies real-life lessons and wisdom from his 25
years of experiences in numerous entrepreneurial ventures in
his corporate thriller set around an oil company fight
bankruptcy and a hostile takeover while drilling for offshore
oil. Offshore, inspired by his days an on oil field roughneck
and buyer/seller of oil and gas leases through Texas, New
Mexico and Oklahoma, also incorporates his experiences as a
Real Estate developer, land speculator, band director,
influential lobbyist, and the owner of an environmental
contracting company.
Prior to his life of oil, real estate, and business, he had
vision of being a professional baseball player.
A back injury suffered during his senior year in high school
sidelined him from continuing on a baseball All-Star team
sponsored by the Los Angeles Dodgers. His ninety mile-per-hour
fastball and 16-4 record as a pitcher made a fond memory. His
dream of playing professional sports was replaced with the
intent to study law.
But after attending benison University, in Ohio, as an English
literature major for a few years, he dropped out, traveling
throughout the US and Europe with only a backpack. Eventually
he returned home, to Pittsburgh, without a degree or a job.
His entrepreneurial venture personality quickly found him in
Midland, Texas after reading a Wall Street Journal article
about a west Texas oil boom. He drove through a sand storm to
obtain a job as a roughneck in the oilfields, circa 1980.
He presently oversees all construction and governmental
permitting activity for the waterfront high-rise condominium
projects (evaluated at $1.5 billion) of Signature Community, a
major real-estate development company.
His days as a roughneck were not easy, especially when his
blue-collar coworkers found out he was hired by the company's
president and he was a college boy. They needled him, calling
Corace a Yankee worm. But he came to be embraced by his oil
comrades.
Corace, 47, hopes his writing in the corporate thriller genre
will be embraced the way John Grisham's for the legal
thriller, Tom Clancy for the military-spy thrillers, and
Michael Chrichton for science-medical thrillers.
His adventures have taken him to West Texas, Southern
California, and Naples, Florida, where he now resides with his
wife of 21 years, Anna, and their three children.
