Bowker
Biography:
Dorothea Fuller Smith
My
true crime book, TWO CODES FOR MURDER, was written with compassion
and love a few years after the crimes occurred
in San Diego. My daughter Charlene was the victim of attempted
murder and had suffered the humiliation of deception, spousal
abuse, stalking and deep trauma. As her terrorized mother
I felt her pain, protected her and much later set out to tell
the world, especially women, about her triumph, bravery, and
mandated survival. Charlene and I appeared on the Sally Show
in April 2002. The book, the exposure to the public about
her ordeal and the intervening kindness of time all helped
bring her closer to her former self.
The
issue of domestic violence has brought me to speaking engagements,
providing a sounding board for many women. A book signing
tour last Fall and a new book, HAVE BOOK - WILL TRAVEL, help
to get the word out.
All
of this has taken a toll on a woman like me, a
seventy-something former teacher and short story writer,
but keeping up with the younger generation has also been rejuvenating
and energizing I will not likely stop until forced to do so
by that last grain slipping in the hour glass.
