Biography:
Esther Kreek
Esther
Kreek, a native of Maryland, has been playing the hammered
dulcimer for over 20 years. Her music has taken her from Texas
to Minnesota, California to Maryland and even to the British
Isles. She attends festivals across the United States as a
teacher and performer. Dressed in period clothing, Esther
presents programs of the Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail and
the Westward Movement. She combines history, storytelling
and music for schools, churches, museums and historical societies,
and teaches music and diary of the Trail for Elderhostel.
She also lays music for weddings, parties and other occasions.
Esther was founder of the Heartland Dulcimer Camp, held near
Parkville, MO, and directed it for nine years. She gave it
over to another director so she could pursue other interests.
As a performer, Esther truly connects with her audience, from
pre-schoolers to senior groups. Her enthusiasm for the music
and her creative workshops, inspire not only the students,
but the listeners, as well. Esther has six recordings covering
a variety of music; traditional, holiday, contemporary and
music of the Westward movement. She has self-published a childrens
book, Dulcimer for Elspeth. It has a CD with narration and
music of the dulcimer played by Esther and Sam Rizzetta. Esther
is also on the Speakers Bureau for the Alzheimers Association.
