Biography:
June Dowling
June
Dowling is a lifetime mother and Nana to three wonderful grandchildren.
Her daughter Cynthia was a stay at home mom who previously
worked as a labor and delivery nurse. Currently she is employed
as a school nurse in Austin. Between them theyve logged
thousands and thousands of mommy hours and thus
their collaboration on this beautiful and inspiring book was
a natural extension of their spiritual commitment as well
as to their commitment to motherhood and one another.
June is also a longtime educator turned photographer/writer
and the founder of Downhome Productions. Her photographic
greeting cards of the Hill Country and various nature scenes
are featured in San Marcos, Wimberley, New Braunfels and Austin.
Cynthia, a graduate of The University of Texas School of Nursing,
has worked for many years as a labor and delivery nurse, as
well as in the Nursery and neonatal units of various hospitals
in Houston and Austin. when presented with the idea for this
book, she seemed to become truly inspired as she located just
the right bible verses to compliment the original prose. This
has been more than a collaboration of mother and daughter,
it is truly a work of love.
A Spiritual Journey into Motherhood
Its an amazing process to bring a child into the world
and its often a time of great joy and trepidation.
One of the important tools a Mom can use is putting her thoughts
to paper and gaining inspiration and encouragement from the
Bible. What could be a more lasting gift to ones child,
for future safekeeping then the fond reminiscing and rereading
of those treasured thoughts recorded in the short period prior
to the blessed event of birth or adoption?
As A spiritual Journey Into Motherhood says,
A child is truly a gift from God. This book
gives those who are expecting the arrival of a child, words
of encouragement and hope. The wonderful verses related throughout
the book complement perfectly with the times of reflection
and journaling that the book also provides. The poems are
both poignant and timeless in their utter joy and deep celebration
of motherhood and all the blessings it brings to ones
life.
The journal sections provide a way to document your conversations,
thoughts, and prayers for your child while you wait. Journal
prompts such as, Write some of the thoughts you had
when you first heard the news of your child coming. List some
of the preparations you have made for the arrival of this
first baby. Write about the hopes and dreams
for your child. The book chapters follow the natural
progression of the wondrous arrival of the child-
From chapter 1: Wanting You, 2: Anticipation, 3: Movement,
and then a beautifully written text in Chapter 4 titled, Daddy.
Chapter 4 reflects the authors intentions to encompass all
the sides of parenthood with the new baby, including how important
fathers are in the experience of raising a child. A father
sonnet opens the chapter and starts.....
He has much to teach you , too.
His Daddy strength, is much
different than mine, and important
to your development in many ways.
In this day and age, when so many of us have so little time
to really treasure and enjoy the simple and the most beloved
moments, this little book is an inspiring prompting for a
journey that will simply last a lifetime and beyond.
