Biography:
Margaret Parker Hudson
Born in 1953 and raised in Pleasantville, N.Y., Maggie
Hudson moved west to Colorado in her mid-twenties where, at
the University of Colorado in Denver and Boulder, she
continued her studies in English literature, creative
writing, and theatre. As a pre-med student, she worked as a
medical librarian until she turned her attention to writing
full-time. Before the births of her son, Arthur, and
daughter, Leah (the model for Wally in The Blue Umbrella),
she worked both as an administrator for the Denver
International Film Festival, and as a production designer in
local theatre.
As
a stay-at-home, single mom, Maggie continued to be active in
the community as a volunteer fire-fighter and EMT, later
finding employment as an apprenticeship coordinator in an
alternative, experiential learning public school, and
recently in the floral and event design business.
Her long-standing interest in child development led Maggie
to write and illustrate The Blue Umbrella, her first
children's book inspired by her belief in the importance of
"down time" for growing hearts and minds; indeed, for all of
us harried by the hurry-up world that's evolved around us.
Residing in the foothills outside of Denver, Maggie is
delighted to live with the quiet companionship of coyote,
bear, mountain lion, bison, elk and deer, in a unique
self-governing mountain community committed to preserving
its natural state and the open space surrounding it. In the
rarefied peace of that place, she hopes to return to writing
and illustrating books for both children and adults in the
years to come.
