Bowker
Biography:
Milton Ranik Jackson
Poetically
known as Ranik Speaks, Milton Jackson was born
in Anns Delight, Portland, Jamaica in 1982. Raised in Hartford,
CT after migrating to the United States at the age of six,
Milton began writing while attending Rawson Elementary School.
After being published in an anthology for young poets at the
age of 12, Milton ceased to write until he was a junior attending
Hartford Public High School, in its Classical Magnet Program.
His writings and ability to perform his work led him to compete
in various slams across the Greater Hartford area. Milton
once again ceased to write until his junior year, while attending
Eastern Connecticut State University.
In
January of 2003, after a fire relinquished Milton of every
material thing he owned, he returned to the art which he saw
as an outlet, an expression and a voice. His dedication to
the study of African American culture and his inclination
to express himself through the art, led to the publication
of Life, Liberty and Love, in March of 2003. Currently,
Milton continues to attend Eastern CT State University with
hopes of complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and
Social Sciences. His second book entitled The Metaphysical
State of Black which seeks to produce a sociological
perspective of the status of Black America is due out sometime
in the summer of 2004.
