Biography:
Ralph G. Willie
None
of us like to write about ourselves. As a result, much
of what is mentioned here will be taken from the words
of others. After all, this writer is no spring chicken, and
he has done enough in life to have both critics as well
as some admirers.
Why
write anything at all? One might say that there is an incentive
to earn money by doing
so. This is not especially
true. It is this writers opinion that he is the one
who benefits from doing the research as well as taking the
time involved. After all, he could be watching T.V. or reading
the works of others.
Writing
is a challenge. That fact was brought home when this writer
decided to enter
an American denture society
essay contest as a senior dental student. He was encouraged
when the results were announced. The first prize of
$500.00 in the fifth annual essay contest sponsored by the
American denture society was won by Dr. Ralph G. Willie.
An
American dental practice magazine entitle, Dental
Survey, published an article provided by this writer
in one of its monthly magazines entitled, For future
re-design: no load bearing walls. This article was
as the result of several years effort on this writers
part as well as that of an architect. Convenience
and comfort for both dentist and patients were major considerations
in the design of the new office of Dr. Ralph G. Willie in
Federal Way, Washington. Such was the beginning of
this article.
Those
of you who have had something to do with office design
can appreciate the time and effort
involved. Permit me to
quote another few sentences from this same article, The
reception room in Dr. Willies suite has a living
room atmosphere, with individual sofa-type chairs
and lighting supplied by overhead banks coupled with individual
spotlights above the chairs for reading. One wall is nearly
all window to provide additional natural lighting, and another
wall contains a relaxing country mural. A third wall has
a planter running full length containing both live and artificial
plants. A childrens table and chairs are placed near
a fish tank and waterfall in one corner. Walls have teakwood
paneling and green vinyl wall coverings, and a rheostat control
permits dimming of spotlights that highlight the waterfall
and planting area. Stereo background music with individual
controls for reach speaker is available in this room as well
as in four other rooms in the office.
Permit
me to conclude this biography with a statement taken from
a letter of recommendation
from an executive of Weyerhaeuser
Company. I have known Ralph Willie for more than twenty
years. During most of those years we have worked or associated
closely together, so I am well aware of his qualifications.
First of all, Ralph has impeccable character. I do not know
anyone that better represents the qualities of honesty and
integrity. He can be trusted with critical issues, and is
reliable in his performance. Ralph and I also worked together
in politics. Here again, he exhibited great wisdom, leadership
skills and sound decision making.
