Biography:
Raymond Grant Gordon, Jr.
Raymond Grant
Gordon, Jr. was born n Fitchburg, Massachusetts on August
24, 1936. He was raised in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. He is
married with four children.
Raymond earned his
PhD in Linguistics from Cornell University in 1981. Since
his research work in the Native American Crow language, Dr.
Gordon has worked in linguistics and literacy for over
thirty years. Dr. Gordon was adjunct assistant professor in
linguistics at the University of Texas at Arlington from
1979 to 1988, and has produced various publications and
papers on linguistics related subjects. He has authored
various computer programs to help with linguistic analysis
and native language texts.
Within SIL
International, Dr. Gordon has served as field linguist,
linguistic and literacy consultant, branch director, board
member, and editor of several publications, most recently
Ethnologue 15th edition.
His hobbies and
interests include musical pursuits with the keyboard, speech
synthesis, amateur radio, church history, and hiking.
