“Two Girls Learn About Compassion and Understanding Through Friendship”

 

In this inspiring new novel The Gift, is the story of a high-spirited ten year old named Jelly Douglas. A curious and impetuous girl, Jelly soon meets Madison Winterbaum. As the two girls develop a close friendship, Jelly’s life changes dramatically as she learns to communicate with her new friend.

This book will provide young readers with an understanding about spirituality and friendship, while simultaneously pushing them to seek answers to life’s questions within themselves.

“To be different is okay,” says author, R. Garland. Tanglewood: The Gift represents the realization of her childhood dream to have her stories, illustrations, and photographs published.

R. Garland desires to communicate to her readers that everyone is different, and this fact should be considered a blessing. She conveys her stories with a light humorous, spiritual message to allow her readers to create a mental conception of Jelly’s adventures by relying upon their intuition and creativity. Robin is a member of the Southern California Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She is a graduate of the Certificate Program at San Diego State University in Technical and Scientific Writing.

The second Tanglewood book of this series titled: This Could Be Big is about Jelly and Madison’s continuing quest to help others and find the true meaning of friendship and family. Through their sheer determination, Jelly and Madison learn that there is no such thing as limitation when you use the creativity of your own mind. This book will be out in 2004.

Ms. Garland lives in sunny Southern California with her dog, Rizzo.
