Ruth Laker, Ph.D.

Ruth Laker, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and writer. She is the daughter of three generations of ministers and has always had a questioning attitude toward church establishments which comes from such a lineage. Like many people, Dr. Laker is a spiritual seeker–wanting very much to find something to give a Higher Meaning to her life–something which is a balance of both reason and faith. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and three children.

How To Choose A Church or Synagogue: A Twenty-One Pew Adventure by Ruth Laker, Ph.D. is a nonfiction religious satire. The book chronicles Dr. Laker’s journey as she attends 26 churches over the course of 12 months, in search of a place to worship. The author’s reflections as she goes through the process are often hilarious, moving and profound. She is unafraid to offer fair criticism of each and every place she worships and challenges all of us to do the same.
