Biography:
Scott A. McClain
The
McClains moved from Kentucky to California where Don
learned the carpentry skills to make furniture. Don learned
his primary skills in Kentucky at his fathers knee: Pappy
Mac. Don, over the years, learned to replicate classic
period furniture. Scott was the youngest of three boys: Steve,
John and Scott. Soon after Scott was born Don moved his family
to Columbus, Ohio to begin his own furniture business.
He
was given a $ job making all the furniture for a newly constructed
$400,000 mansion. After his divorce he moved to North Carolina
and then to Savannah, GA to be near his brother, Tom. Scott
went to Principia Lower School and Upper School in Columbus
and left Columbus, after two years at Principia College, for
Florida and New York. On the advise of Roger McMurrin, the
Music Director, of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, who recognized
his musical talents- he enrolled at Westminster Choir College,
Princeton, NJ in l984 on a scholarship and help from a few
members of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Scotts
mother,Alice, died in Florida August 24th 1987.
Scott
received his undergraduate degree in Dec. 1987. He continued
working as a church musician for Princeton Presbyterian Chruch
(Ken Smith, Pastor) living and composing in Princeton, NJ.
During this time he toured with his scripture songs in several
states with notable performnces in Ocean Grove, and made 3
recordings with singers Wiliam Riley and David Arnold, and
members of the Westminster Choir,Pianists:Chui-Tze Lin and
Louise Cheadle. He took periodic trips to South Carolina to
visit his father, working as a church musician in several
towns. He returned to Westminster Choir College just after
they included a Masters Degree program and received his masters
degree in 1998.
He
returned to Savannh at that time to care for his father, who
was elderly and in need of assistance. His father died September
28, 2003 with double lung cancer and a stomach tumor. While
caring for his father Scott authored Teaching Your
Child Vol. II with a CD demonstrating a pitch recognition
program for toddlers and preschoolers. The first printing
of 300 books came off the press November 10th, 2003.
