Biography:
Suzanne Smith

Suzanne Smith, formerly a senior research scientist at a national
laboratory, has been writing stories, poems, and nonfiction
since she was five years old. She is the author of three cookbooks:
Pumpkin Recipes, a collection of exciting recipes using the
humble pumpkin; Recipes for Romance, a compilation of recipes
for every stage of courtship, including the time when the
nest has emptied and romance is being re-kindled; and Cooking
with Lavender, an adventure in the culinary uses of luscious
lavender. She invents some of the recipes in her cookbooks
and collects others from friends, family, colleagues, and
restaurant chefs in her travels around the world with her
husband, Ron, who indulges her in all her obsessions du jour.
She is also the author of A Writers Phrasebook, an
exploration of the words, phrases, and concepts a writer must
understand to succeed in the publishing jungle; and A Writers
Bookshelf, an annotated booklist with evaluations and recommendations
for every serious writers library. The latter two books
arose from the needs of her students in the writing classes
she teaches at the University of New Mexico at Los Alamos
Three previous books--The Standard Schnauzer in America, Sourcebook
II; New Risks; and Handbook for the International Information
Economy--are long out of print.
A free-lance journalist and a member of New Mexico Book Association,
Southwest Writers, Romance Writers of America and two of its
chapters, and Los Alamos Writers Group, she is hard at work
on several new fiction and nonfiction writing projects. In
her spare time, she grows orchids and herbs, tends her roses,
teaches piano to adults, gives an occasional piano concert,
cooks and travels with her husband, and romps with her dogs,
who grudgingly consent to be exhibited at random dog shows.
