Bowker
Biography:
Tom Craighead
Tom
Craighead was born in a pre-Revolutionary home in the tiny
hamlet of Cross River, NY in 1934. His first schooling was
in a one room school house. In the military, he served in
the Army 11th Airborne Division Paratroopers during the Korean
Conflict.
After
his tour of duty, Tom entered the public relations department
of a large corporation in New York City. Fifteen years later,
he purchased his family's business. Over the years until he
retired, he earned life memberships in three volunteer organizations
... Lions International, his local fire department and the
ambulance corps he founded in 1975. Tom received the Lion
of the Year award 1984. In the same year, he was named Citizen
of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce of his town.
After
Tom retired from his business in 1989, he was hired as a radio-talkshow-host
at WGHQ in Kingston, NY where he voiced his Conservative views
on a morning show. The remainder of his time has been occupied
writing books and journals and skydiving history.
On
July 2, 1984, Tom crashed his Ultralite airplane in verticle
flight into the ground, saved only by God and hitting a swamp
and eight hours of surgery. He is most proud of the fact that
he is an original American skydiver being one of the first
ten in the sport in America and marvels at the progress and
numbers of people following in his footsteps and their dream.
